Companion Titles

R. J. Palacio’s bestselling book Wonder is intended to stand alone.  However, she has written three companion titles to accompany the original work.   If you liked Wonder, you will likely enjoy reading these.

Wonder (2012) introduces readers to Auggie Pullman, a ten year old with a facial deformity starting a new school.  Auggie just wants to be ordinary.  This is the original novel upon which the 2017 film is based.

Auggie and Me (2015) was the companion title R. J. Palacio wrote because fans of Wonder kept asking for a sequel, although she never intended to write one.  Auggie and Me contains three separate stories written from alternative perspectives including Julian (“The Julian Chapter”), Charlotte, (“Shingaling”), and readers learn events prior to the original novel in the “Pluto” chapter.  Readers experience similar events to those described in the original book but from other characters’ perspectives.

365 Days of Wonder (2014) is an anthology of Mr. Browne’s “precepts” or quotes from Auggie’s homeroom teacher, Mr. Browne, who would offer students helpful lessons in the formof quotations for each day of the calendar year.  The precepts were ofered to teach them how to be successful people as well as students.  Auggie forms a connection based on the first precept given on the first day of fifth grade at Beecher Prep, “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.”  Through Mr. Browne, the students begin to accept Auggie for who he is on the inside.

Notice that R.J. Palacio wrote all of these.  You can find them in the library in the fiction section under the first three letters of her last name, PAL.  If you can’t find them on the shelf or the cart, check the catalog to see if they are there.  This is a screenshot of what our catalog looks like.
